Residents of Manhattan’s Upper East Side were stunned to begin their Friday morning with the sound of gunfire, not even a block away from Gracie Mansion. Officers of the 19th Precinct responded to reports of shots fired around 9:00 am, and stumbled onto a horrific scene- two women had been shot, with the younger victim’s one year old daughter sitting feet away in a car.

Reports indicate that the two women have been identified as Kathleen Leigh, 65, and Marisa Galloway, 45. In what law enforcement are investigating as an apparent murder-suicide, it’s believed that the incident occurred as the result of a custody dispute. Allegedly, Leigh approached Galloway and shot her in the head and back, before turning the gun on herself. Leigh was pronounced dead at the scene, while Galloway was later pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to police.
