‘Tis almost the season! The Radio City Rockettes gathered in Manhattan early Thursday morning to provide a “sneak peak” for their performance in the upcoming Radio City Christmas Spectacular.
Gathered in the rehearsal space of St. Paul the Apostle Church, the iconic dancers practiced several routines- ranging from new numbers to fan favorites. Portions of the “Christmas Lights” finale- which is set to have new choreography during the 2023 Christmas Spectacular- were showcased, as well as the quintessential kicks that appear during the “New York at Christmas” segment. Also performed were parts of the reimagined lyrical number, “Dance of the Frost Fairies”.
Noteworthy was the addition of 14 new Rockettes from across the country, including New York and New Jersey; the performers were entirely recruited from the Rockettes Conservatory, a program that provides a no-fee, week-long intensive training seminar which provides the troupe with an inclusive talent pipeline. Christmas Spectacular director and choreographer Julie Branam provided the dancers with flawless guidance through their routines, culminating in the familiar synchronized choreography for which the Rockettes have become known.
Since the Christmas Spectacular’s inception at Radio City Music Hall in 1933, the New York City holiday staple has brought the holiday spirit to tourists and New Yorkers alike. Celebrating 90 years of holiday enchantment, Radio City has spread that joy to 70 million people around the world- and counting!
The Radio City Christmas Spectacular returns November 17th.
