New York City’s annual lesbian parade– officially dubbed the “Dyke March”– brought revelers out in force Saturday evening.

According to the group’s website, the event is not a parade, but is instead a “protest march”; they go on to state that the march is, “a demonstration of [our] First Amendment right to protest and takes place without permits or sponsors.” The cause for which the group marches changes annually– the theme that was chosen for this year’s event was “Dykes Against Genocide”.

Signs referencing the ongoing conflict in Gaza were aplenty throughout the crowd.

Their rallying cries echoed down the streets and across Washington Square Park as they jumped into the famed fountain– the loudest of which being, “When the Dykes Go Marching In[…]”, sung to the tune of the popular song “When the Saints Go Marching In”. Attendees formed large groups in and around the fountain to prominently display their signs, as well as draw attention to their cause.

Pride Weekend continues through the end of June.
