Good Morning America’s Summer Concert Series is back! Kicking off early Friday morning in New York City’s own Central Park, GMA pulled out all of the stops by starting this year with a celebration of 50 years of Hip-Hop. Special guest talents included Remy Ma, Busta Rhymes, and Fat Joe.
Turn-out this year was high, much more so than previous years- an unfortunate result of the Covid-19 pandemic. Concert goers came out in force, waiting for hours to get a chance to participate in the historic celebration. In addition to the concert itself, there were a few events held both on-stage as well as off. The event’s sponsor held make-overs at their booth towards the rear of the venue, there were interviews with the performers, and there was a fashion show that displayed modernized takes on classic hip-hop looks from industry icons. Legends such as Missy Elliot, Run DMC, and Lil Kim were paid homage to on the makeshift runway.
The concert itself saw iconic numbers such as All the Way Up and I Know What You Want performed to a cheering crowd. Busta Rhymes’ showcase of his unparalleled skill and speed in his songs was met with resounding audience approval, as the cameras swung around, broadcasting the concert on television. The stage was alive with a colorful backdrop and enthusiastic performances from the musicians, in a manner that was reminiscent of concerts past.
The GMA Summer Concert Series continues Friday mornings into September.
